"DIY" (do-it-yourself) hair extensions are designed specifically for home use. Unlike standard tape extensions applied in panels, DIY tape extensions are applied in rows, and the extension itself features a double-sided adhesive surface. The application method differs from the traditional "sandwich" technique (extension–natural hair–extension); in this case, the double-sided tape extension sits in the middle (natural hair–extension–natural hair). This makes it much easier to apply and remove, allowing for effortless use at home.
Advantages of DIY tape extensions:
- easy to apply (even at home),
- easy to remove because the solvent can more easily reach the adhesive surface,
- quick application and removal,
- better suited for temporary wear than extensions designed for permanent wear.
Disadvantage:
- less durable than traditional single-sided tape extensions applied using the sandwich method.
Recommended wear time: The recommended wear time for DIY tape extensions is shorter than that of standard sandwich-style tape extensions. This is because, with this method, both the outer and inner sides of the attachment point are covered by natural hair, making the bond less resistant to moisture and external factors. For this reason, we recommend it for temporary use, with a maximum wear time of 3 weeks.
Expected lifespan: With normal use and care, these hair extensions can be reused multiple times! With proper use and care, the expected lifespan is approximately 2 years for dark shades and approximately 1 year for light shades.
Do not use 2-in-1 shampoos (containing conditioner) or apply conditioner or hair masks to the roots—either before applying the DIY tape-in extensions or when washing your hair while wearing them. A simple, sulfate-free clarifying shampoo is recommended for washing tape-in extensions!
